PTSD Treatment in Utah

Living with PTSD or complex trauma can feel exhausting and isolating. At Maple Mountain Mental Health and Wellness, we help you process your experiences and reclaim your life.

What Is PTSD and Complex PTSD?

Post-Traumatic Stress Disorder (PTSD) can develop after experiencing a traumatic event, such as accidents, assault, combat, or natural disasters. Complex PTSD often arises from prolonged or repeated trauma and can deeply affect how you feel, think, and connect with others.

Symptoms may include flashbacks or intrusive memories, nightmares, anxiety, depression, emotional numbness, difficulty trusting others and forming relationships, challenges in daily functioning, and unexplained chronic health problems (stomachaches, migraines, joint pain, fatigue).

At Maple Mountain Mental Health and Wellness, we understand that PTSD is more than a set of symptoms, it’s a whole-body experience. Our treatment approach focuses on nervous system regulation, mind-body connection, emotional processing, and rebuilding healthy relationships.

Our Approach to Treating PTSD

Our approach to PTSD treatment at Maple Mountain Mental Health and Wellness is based on a combination of evidence-based therapies, holistic modalities, and a supportive, compassionate environment. We believe in addressing the whole person, not just the symptoms, to achieve long-lasting recovery.

Evidence-Based Therapies

Our team of licensed therapists and counselors employs evidence-based therapies that have been proven effective in treating PTSD. These may include:

Cognitive-Behavioral Therapy (CBT)

Trauma-focused CBT helps individuals recognize and change negative thought patterns and behaviors, allowing them to better cope with the symptoms of PTSD.

Dialectical Behavior Therapy (DBT)

DBT helps individuals with complex trauma build skills to manage intense emotions, improve relationships, and create a greater sense of safety and stability in daily life.

EMDR

EMDR is a specialized 8-phase therapy that helps individuals process traumatic memories and reduce the emotional impact of past experiences using bilateral stimulation through guided eye movements and auditory stimulation.

Accelerated Resolution Therapy

ART helps you process and reframe traumatic memories, using guided eye movements and mental imagery to reduce emotional intensity, ease anxiety, and restore a sense of calm and control.

Group Therapy

Group therapy provides a safe and supportive environment where individuals with PTSD can share their experiences, learn from one another, and develop valuable coping skills.

Holistic Care for PTSD

In addition to evidence-based therapies, we offer holistic activities that complement traditional treatment approaches. These include:

Trauma-Informed Yoga:

Gentle, trauma-informed yoga helps you reconnect with your body in a safe and supportive way. Through mindful movement and breath, it supports nervous system regulation and builds a sense of stability alongside therapies like EMDR or ART.

Mindfulness Meditation:

Mindfulness and meditation create space to slow down, feel grounded, and reconnect with the present moment. These practices help calm an overactive nervous system and support emotional healing as you process trauma in therapy.

Art & Expressive Therapies:

Art and music therapy offer a safe, creative way to express and process emotions that may be hard to put into words. They help release emotional blocks and deepen healing when used alongside modalities like EMDR or ketamine therapy.

Sound & Energy Healing:

Sound baths and Reiki work gently with your body’s energy to promote deep relaxation and nervous system regulation. These practices can help release stored tension and emotional blocks, supporting deeper healing alongside your therapeutic work.

Integrated Health Services for PTSD

We address the physical and biological impact of trauma to support full recovery:

Nutritional Support & Gut Health: Support your body’s natural healing with targeted nutritional strategies, including gut microbiota restoration, holistic nutrition plans, and IV therapies designed to replenish nutrients and promote overall wellness.

Sleep & Lifestyle Restoration: Regulate your body’s rhythms and restore restorative sleep through evidence-based lifestyle strategies that reduce stress and strengthen emotional stability.

Frequently Asked Questions

What is PTSD and how is it treated in residential care?

PTSD (Post-Traumatic Stress Disorder) is a mental health condition triggered by experiencing or witnessing a traumatic event. Symptoms include flashbacks, hypervigilance, emotional numbness, and avoidance behaviors. At the residential level, PTSD treatment involves intensive daily therapy — including EMDR, brainspotting, and somatic approaches — combined with psychiatric support and peer community. Residential care is recommended when outpatient treatment has not been sufficient or when symptoms are severe enough to interfere with daily functioning.

Maple Mountain Recovery treats PTSD using a combination of evidence-based and experiential therapies including EMDR, brainspotting, Accelerated Resolution Therapy (ART), DBT, and individual counseling. For clients with treatment-resistant PTSD, MMR also offers ketamine-assisted therapy as an adjunct treatment. All PTSD treatment is delivered within a residential setting with two individual therapy sessions per week.

While all PTSD involves trauma, not all trauma results in PTSD. PTSD is a diagnosable clinical condition characterized by specific symptom clusters — intrusion, avoidance, negative cognitions, and hyperarousal — persisting for more than one month after the traumatic event. Trauma treatment broadly addresses emotional wounds; PTSD treatment specifically targets the neurological imprint of the traumatic memory, requiring modalities like EMDR and brainspotting that process the memory at the level of the nervous system.

Yes. Complex PTSD (C-PTSD) develops from repeated, prolonged trauma — such as childhood abuse, domestic violence, or chronic neglect — rather than a single incident. C-PTSD often presents with additional symptoms including difficulty regulating emotions, persistent feelings of shame, and challenges in relationships. Maple Mountain Recovery treats both PTSD and complex trauma within its residential program.

Residential PTSD treatment typically ranges from 30 to 90 days depending on the severity of symptoms, the presence of co-occurring conditions, and the client’s treatment history. Many individuals with complex or treatment-resistant PTSD benefit from extended stays of 60 to 90 days to allow sufficient time for trauma processing alongside stabilization. MMR develops individualized treatment plans and length-of-stay recommendations during the admissions assessment.

Ketamine-assisted therapy is an emerging and promising treatment for PTSD, particularly in individuals who have not responded to traditional therapy or medication. Research suggests ketamine may help reduce the emotional intensity of traumatic memories by promoting neuroplasticity. At Maple Mountain Recovery, ketamine is offered as an advanced add-on therapy within the residential program and is not used as a standalone treatment.

Many major insurance plans cover residential PTSD treatment under mental health parity laws, which require equal coverage for mental health and medical conditions. Coverage varies by plan, provider, and level of care. Maple Mountain Recovery works with most major insurance carriers and provides benefits verification during the admissions process to help clients understand their coverage before beginning treatment.
